The Aquarium

The Aquarium reopened to the public in August of 2017. After a half-year renovation, all damaged walls are repaired and adorned with hand-drawn illustration, and display panels are renewed.

Before the renovation, two pirarucus living there, having gradually grown from 1 meter long to 2 meters long with 5 years careful breeding, became too long to fit in their aquarium. For a better living environment, the Museum has safely transferred them to a large fish farm. After their “retirement”, three little pirarucus with the length of one meter are there to welcome visitors instead. Though now small in size, they would be heavier than an adult man in half a decade.

The fish pond built along the stairs at the entrance of the hall is a popular exhibit. Many precious varieties of goldfishes with graceful postures and distinctive characteristics are in it, such as pop-eyed telescopes, butterfly tails, lion-heads, and the famous bubble eye goldfish.
